Installation using Poly Pipe

Preparation is everything. Once this thing starts going down the hole is no time to be adjusting things.

1. Uncoil the pipe to let the bends work out.

2. Thread the hose barbs into the pump and into the fittings you are using on the well seal or pitless adapter. Tighten them. Use pipe dope, Teflon past if any parts are plastic.

3.Place the cable protectors on the pipe approx every 40'. You may have to cut out center pieces to make them fit the pipe. If your well is less than 6" diameter, you may have to trim the “ears” on the cable protectors.

4.Place the hose clamps for the hose barbs and the torque arrestor on the poly pipe.

5. Use either a heat gun or hot water to soften the ends of the poly pipe , then push the pipe on until it hits the shoulder on the hose barb.

6. Tighten the hose barbs until you think they will break. Use at least two on each end.

7. Put the torque arrestor on and tighten the hose clamp nearest the pump. Snug up the upper one. The torque arrestor goes as close to the pump as possible.

8. Uncoil the wire, already spliced on the pump, and lay it out next to the pipe.

9. Tape or tie wrap the wire to the pipe about every 10'. Try not to let it bag up or barber pole around the pipe. It can get surprisingly short if you let it. Neat is good. Do NOT put sub wire under any hose clamp or in two years you will be pulling it back out again.

10. Tie the safety rope to the pump. String the safety rope out along with the pipe and wire but do NOT tape it to the pipe.

11. Be sure the top hose barb is tight in whatever fitting you are using to support the pump on the top end.

12. You are now ready to lower the pump. We recommend getting as many people as you know to help at this point. Give them beer. Ideally, one strong person and a helper should be at the well, one person should be at the far end holding the well seal, and one person in between to help feed the pipe.

13. The pump is lowered into the well until the torque arrestor is even with the top of the well. The helper expands it until it just kisses the well casing, then tightens the upper hose clamp.

14. The lead person then lowers the pump using the pipe until it is all gone and the well seal is down on top of the well. Give helpers more beer.  This can get heavy if the pipe is large and the water level is deep. Once the pipe gets in the water, it is almost the same density as water and weighs almost nothing. The wire however, still can be heavy.

15. Tighten the bolts on the well seal. If you are using a pitless adapter, make sure you have a piece of rigid galvanized pipe long enough for you to thread it in the top of the moveable part of the pitless so you can reach the fixed part.
